LA JOLLA, Calif. - The ninth-ranked University of California San Diego women's soccer team won its ninth straight contest on Senior Day Sunday at Triton Soccer Stadium, 2-0 over Cal State Dominguez Hills.

UC San Diego improved to 12-2 overall and a still-perfect 8-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The last six decisions in this lengthy run have all now come in shutout fashion. The Tritons stay three points clear of second-place reigning regular-season champion Sonoma State atop the table. CSUDH fell to 7-6 overall and an even 4-4 in the conference, taking a fourth successive defeat, all on the road, after an impressive 4-0 CCAA start.

Another thing Sunday's result meant, was that UCSD is the first team to clinch a spot in the six-team 2016 CCAA Tournament. The Tritons have thus already earned the chance to defend their record ninth tourney banner from a season ago.

Redshirt freshman holding central midfielder Natalie Saddic (San Diego/Torrey Pines HS), a first-year transfer from UC Davis, opened the scoring with her first collegiate tally, getting her foot to a left-sided corner kick by senior teammate Kiera Bocchino in the 17th minute around the near post, and finding the near netting.

Junior striker Katie O'Laughlin (Carlsbad/Pacific Ridge School) made it a rather-insurmountable 2-0 lead in the 58th, finishing off a movement from sophomore strike partner Mary Reilly (Chula Vista/Hilltop HS). Reilly stole a short clearance attempt on the right side, rounded her defender, and crossed the ball. O'Laughlin was camped out in the middle, right on the edge of the six-yard box, and gently headed into the bottom left corner for her CCAA- and West Region-leading 12th.

Bocchino and Reilly now have three and a team-best nine assists, respectively.

Senior Itzel Gonzalez had three saves to post her CCAA-leading 10th individual clean sheet in the Triton goal. Counterpart Elisa Martin stopped 10 shots for CSUDH. UCSD held a significant 27-6 advantage in the shot department, including 17-1 in the first half, just two days after not allowing a single attempt to Cal State LA. That singleton by the Toros was a long-distance free kick that traveled well over the crossbar.

Bocchino, fellow senior co-captain Meghan Berry (Austin, Texas/San Diego Miramar College/Mt. Carmel HS), Gonzalez, and fourth-year Tritons Jamie Benedetto and Kristen Sampietro were recognized prior to their final regular-season home contest.

In the 61st minute, junior left back Aimee Ellis cracked a left-footed shot from just outside of 30 yards that rattled the crossbar. In the 81st, some nice Triton build-up saw Bocchino find Sampietro, who in turn sent Reilly into the penalty area, but her attempt from the right diagonal was blocked away by the Toro defender.

UC San Diego flies to the Bay Area for a second time this month, in the coming week, and awaits a rematch in primetime this Friday night, Oct. 21, with Stanislaus State, who the Tritons beat 3-2 in the 2015 CCAA Tournament final in Pomona.

Triton Notes: This is UCSD's longest win streak since a 10-gamer from Oct. 1-31, 2010 ... UCSD's current shutout stretch has reached 565:25, today surpassing one of 554:25 from 2014 ... The Tritons have scored two or more goals in 10 successive games, a record streak for the program's NCAA Division II era, since 2000 ... UCSD has outscored opponents 39-6 this year as the West Region's top offensive side, and an incredible 28-2 after halftime ... Megumi Barber (San Diego/Mt. Carmel HS) was unavailable through injury for a fourth straight game, with fellow sophomore Summer Bales also unavailable following Friday's red card ... The Tritons are the only team in the CCAA with double-figure victories, and have the league's longest current win streak, just like the UCSD men ... The Tritons have been credited with 20-plus shots in five games in a row, and eight in all this season.
