NU Continues Shutout Streak with Win Over BU
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – Northwestern's shutout streak continued on Friday evening at Marquette's Valley Field as two Wildcats scored goals en route to a 2-0 win over Boston University (0-2-1). NU is now a perfect 3-0 in 2015, marking the best start to a season in program history.
"There were a lot of encouraging signs tonight," said head coach Michael Moynihan. "BU is an experienced and talented team, so we are thrilled to have won with another shutout. Our defense was very solid all around and the team is growing in confidence. We are eager to keep building on our early success."
Lauren Clem's clean-sheet streak now stands at 270 minutes. The sophomore keeper recorded three saves in the Wildcats' effort.
NU edged BU in shots, 11-10, but the key difference came in looks on goal, in which the Wildcats outperformed the Terriers, 6-3.
After a scoreless first half, Kim Jerantowski put Northwestern on the board as the sophomore booted a shot from four yards out off a pass from junior Addie Steiner. The Wildcats struck again in the 87th minute when Steiner capitalized on a miscue from BU's keeper in the midfield to secure Northwestern's third-straight win.
The Wildcats return to the pitch on Sunday in a match up against Santa Clara in South Bend, Ind. Kick off is set for 10 a.m., at Notre Dame's Alumni Stadium.
