Published: August 21, 2017

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Northeastern women's soccer team (2-0-0) earned a 2-0 victory at Holy Cross (0-2-0) on Sunday to open the season with consecutive wins for the first time since 2009.

Goals from senior Hannah Lopiccolo and freshman Julianne Ross helped the Huskies topple the Crusaders. It was Lopiccolo's 16th career tally while Ross's strike was her first at Northeastern.

Junior goalkeeper Nathalie Nidetch was solid for the second game in a row as she made four saves. She made two stellar saves in the first half; one on a short shot inside the box and another on a header off a corner.

The Northeastern offense was strong for the second game in a row. They sent five shots at the Holy Cross net and attempted eight total shots.

Goal Recaps

  • Just over eight minutes into the match, Nicole Gorman tracked down a loose ball in the midfield. She spotted a streaking Hannah Lopiccolo and threaded the ball through two defenders. Lopiccolo took the ball in stride and fired a shot into the bottom right corner.
  • Early in the second half, Lopiccolo tracked down a ball deep in the Holy Cross end and drew a corner kick. She sent the ball high through the box where Julianne Ross lept to connect with the ball. Her header flew directly to the back of the net to increase NU's lead to 2-0.

Northeastern returns to action on Thursday at Boston University for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
