BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Northeastern men's soccer team returned home to Parsons Field with a bang Saturday night, scoring twice in the first half before adding three in the second to down Fairfield, 5-2. Terence Carter and Devin Devoy had two goals, apiece, while Dante Marini added three points (one goal, two assists).

Six different Huskies logged points during the contest, while sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Faber made four saves at the other end. Northeastern held a 13-9 edge in shots during the match (10-6 shots on goal), while the Stags earned nine corner chances to NU's three.

After Fairfield tested Faber with a shot on goal in the sixth minute, the Huskies turned the tide soon after with two goals in the first 45 minutes of play.

Carter generated chance after chance for NU throughout the opening half, the first coming in the eighth minute when he sent a shot into Stag goalkeeper Joe Martin's hands off a steal from Marc Greenblatt at midfield. NU continued the pressure four minutes later when consecutive blocked bids from Carter and Dante Marini, the second of which leading to a corner for Northeastern.

Freshman Robbie Schallmo nearly put home his first career goal off a rebound chance from a Carter shot on the left side in the 15th minute. After Carter's shot was steered aside by Martin, Schallmo corralled the rebound before rifling a shot just over the crossbar.

Carter would cash in and put the Huskies on top 1-0 in the 18th minute on a gritty effort in the box, following his own rebound that trickled through the legs of Martin to pound the ball into goal for his first of the season.

At the other end of the field, the NU defense kept the Stags at bay thanks to efforts from Simon Cox and Ambry Moss, limiting Fairfield's scoring bids despite four first half corners.

Marini did his best to extend the Northeastern lead as the half wore on with two hard runs towards goal before being hauled down with no foul called.

Devoy, who entered the match for Schallmo with less than six minutes left in the first half, registered his first goal of the season in the 44th minute with a header off an entry fromDonovan Fayd'Herbe de Maudave on a corner to give the Huskies a commanding two-goal edge heading into halftime.

NU continued to dictate the pace of play as the second half began, and Marini gave the Huskies a three-goal cushion 2:15 into the second when he tucked away a threaded pass from Mike Lobben.

Carter netted his second of the night with a beautiful goal in the 61st minute. After coming back onsides, Marini sent the ball up five yards to Carter heading towards goal. He then ended the box and dribbled through two defenders before firing a hard shot into the lower left corner.

NU recorded its fifth tally of the contest in the 66th minute as Devoy headed home his second of the night off a cross from Schallmo.

The Stags would cut into the deficit in the 74th minute when Matt Callahan was whistled for a foul in the box, setting up a penalty kick goal from Jon Clements to make it 5-1. The Stags added another tally on an own goal from the Huskies in the final minute of regulation.

The Huskies will be back in action on Tuesday when Northeastern hosts Fordham at 4 p.m.
