OAKLAND WINS AT VCU, 3-2
OAKLAND RALLIES FROM TWO GOAL DEFICIT TO TAKE OUT VCU, 3-2
RICHMOND, Va. - Nebojsa Popovic, Keenan King and Austin Ricci scored three consecutive goals rallying Oakland from a 0-2 hole to 3-2 season opening win at VCU on Friday night. Popovic assisted on King's first career goal while Noah Jensen added his first career assist on the game-winning goal. Wes Mink picked up his first win in goal since 2015 after missing last season due to injury.
Down 2-0 in the first half, Wilfred Williams made a save preventing the ball from crossing the line keeping VCU from a three goal lead. Three minutes later, Popovic drew a penalty inside the box followed by Ricci converting the penalty kick to get Oakland on the board.
It was all Golden Grizzlies in the second half as King added the equalizer in the 65 minute followed by Popovic's game-winner off a strike to the far post from 24 yards out in the 68 minute.
Oakland travels to Old Dominion for a match on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m.
