ODU Collects Resounding 3-0 Win over Mercyhurst
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team ended a four-game winless streak with a complete 3-0 shutout of non-conference foe Mercyhurst (Pa.) at Panther Field on Wednesday afternoon.
With their third shutout of the season, the Panthers improve to 3-6-2 overall and 2-3-2 at home, while the Lakers drop to 5-5-1 and 1-3-0 on the road.
Junior Jennifer Holton (Johnstown, OH) scored what proved to be the game-winner just 4:37 into the contest with her team-leading fourth score from the far post five yards out off a cross by ODU's all-time assists leader, senior Sierra Patterson (Brecksville, OH), near the left wing endline. The goal marks the third time this season the Panthers have taken the lead within the first six minutes of a game.
At the 25:45 mark, ODU tacked on its second score as junior Kirsten Hoy (Worthington, OH) from point blank range, redirected a shot by freshman Broegan Sautter (Bellville, OH) from the top of the box for her second goal of the year and move into a tie with classmate Holton for seventh on the school's career goals chart.
Following the break, the Panthers added an insurance goal in the 67th minute as Sautter tallied her first collegiate score with a straight on skillfully placed lob shot to the right side of the net from outside the box, about 22 yards deep.
ODU finished with a 15-11 edge on shots, including 8-4 in the second and put eight shots on goal compared to just two for the Lakers.
The Panthers wrap up their four-game home swing this Friday, Oct. 7 as they host former AMC rival Cedarville for a 7 p.m. bout.
