ODU Men’s Soccer Pays Visit to Local YWCA
September 2, 2011
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican men''s soccer team stepped away from the pitch Tuesday evening to help serve meals to the less fortunate at a nearby Young Women''s Christian Association (YWCA) Family Center.
The Panthers helped prepare a buffet line of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, rolls, lemonade/water and dessert for 250 people, while also setting tables, pouring drinks, assembling bread baskets and loading the dishwashers.
"It''s good for our players to get out and volunteer their time in the community to help out the less fortunate," said head coach Willy Merrick. "They are doing a good service and at the same time seeing a different life style then the one they have been provided. It makes us all a little more thankful and appreciative for what we have."
Founded in 1858, the YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
