ODU Suffers Heartbreaker in Double Overtime to Greyhounds
September 6, 2011
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Playing their second game in three days at Key Stadium in Indianapolis, the Ohio Dominican women''s soccer team went toe-to-toe with the UIndy Greyhounds Sunday afternoon, but could not find the timely score as the Greyhounds took the 1-0 victory in two overtimes.
Nicole Duncan nailed the game-winner for UIndy (2-0-0) with a short-range shot off a cross into the box from Shelby Spinelli, 5:21 into the second overtime.
The Panthers came out as the aggressor to start the game, outshooting the Greyhounds 7-3, including three shots on goal, in the first frame. However, ODU could only muster three shots, one in each period, the rest of the way as a battle of defensive attrition took over.
Senior Sierra Patterson (Brecksville, OH) once again led the Panthers with four shots and two shots on goal in 76 minutes of play. Freshman Laura Clark (Lapeer, MI) took her second loss in goal, turning aside five shots for the game.
ODU (0-2-0) will go for their first victory of the year next Friday, Sept. 9 at 3 p.m. as they welcome GLIAC foe, Michigan Tech, to Panther Field for their home opener.
