Orediggers Overpower Adams State; Clinch No. 2 Seed In RMAC Postseason
GOLDEN – Colorado School of Mines men's soccer accrued a season-best 21 points and clinched the No. 2 seed in the RMAC Tournament Sunday, blitzing Adams State, 7-0, on Senior Day at CSM Soccer Stadium.

Mines (11-7) concluded the conference schedule in a three-way tie for second with Regis (12-5) and Fort Lewis (11-7) at 9-5, and obtained the second seed and bye into Friday's semifinals through a series of tie-breaker formulas.

The men turned on a season-high 28 shots, putting three scores across in the opening frame and four in the second for their second seven-goal outing in the last five matches.

Junior Richard Garvey started the scoring frenzy at 7:22 with his sixth off a defensive clearance; freshman Jackson Shelledy followed 8:10 later on a corner from classmate Nikolaus Grotz flicked on by junior Ryan Leach, and freshman Preston Migaki finished a short rebound of an on-goal attempt by senior Matthew Alemann at 30:53 to cap the first 45:00.

Senior Adrian Eccles earned his first goal since joining Mines in 2013, lining a through ball from Grotz to the bottom, right-90.

Migaki finalized the brace in the 75th minute by way of a touch header from redshirt freshman Adam Fox.

Leach set up redshirt freshman Kevin May at 82:07 and then punctuated the outburst in the 87th, charging in a five-yard header on a lengthy Shelledy throw-in to front net.

Garvey, Grotz, Migaki, Alemann and Eccles all sent three tries to goal, while Shelledy, Leach and May each had one.

Sophomore Collin Hall improved to 6-5 with his fourth shutout, denying three looks across the full time.

Alemann, Eccles and senior Tannor Randle were honored prior to the start of the match.

The Orediggers will face the winner of Regis and Metro State at 4 p.m. on Friday at Walker Field in Grand Junction.
