Ortiz, Lucatorto Lead Warhawks to Road Win
NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Taylor Ortiz (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) scored in the 54th minute to lead the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over St. Olaf on Sunday in Minnesota.
UW-W, 7-3-4, opened the match with three shots in the first twelve and a half minutes. St. Olaf countered with three of their own between the 25th and 27th minutes, but neither team was able to capitalize and they entered halftime scoreless.
A St. Olaf free kick was knocked out of bounds around midfield in the 54th minute. Kyle Clancy (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) took the ensuing throw-in and found Dieuvit Emmanuel Mbavumoja (Kisangani, Congo/Groupe Scolaire Sainte Marie-Inst. Chololo) who connected with Ortiz. Ortiz collected the ball, beat a defender and the goalie for his second goal of the season and a 1-0 Warhawk lead.
Chris Lucatorto (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) kept the Oles out of the net with four saves to earn his fourth solo shutout of the season.
The Warhawks will return to action on Wednesday, October 11 when they host Millikin at 7 p.m. Wednesday's match is UW-W's final home game and the team will recognize their seniors after the match.
