FLORENCE, SC – The University of North Florida scored a pair of goals in a two-minute span of the first half and the Ospreys went on to defeat Francis Marion University 4-0, Friday afternoon (Aug. 21) in non-conference women’s soccer action.  The match was the season opener for both squads.

Francis Marion (0-1-0) will play at Presbyterian College on Sunday at 7 p.m.  The next home match for the Patriots will be Aug. 30 against UNC Asheville at 2 p.m. on Hartzler Field.

North Florida held Francis Marion to just shot, while registering 14 attempts.  UNF held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.  The loss spoiled the debut of first-year FMU head coach Lindsey Morgan.

Patriot senior goalkeeper Taylor O’Berry improved upon her school record for career saves – now at 301 – with three first-half stops.  Sophomore keeper Casey Murakami played the second half and recorded one save.

UNF keepers Susie Ford and Victoria Ekeli combined for the shutout.

Senior midfielder Arianna Pierner accounted for FMU’s shot, but her attempt from inside the box was wide left of the netting at the 21:07 mark.

Freshman forward Krista Colubiale gave the Osprey a 1-0 advantage just 52 seconds into the match when she took a long pass from Sonia O’Neill, chopped back inside the box, and then beat O’Berry with an 8-yard shot.

UNF doubled its margin on an own goal at 27:49 and went ahead 3-0 when Alexis Bredeau scored on a 20-yard blast at 29:39.

The Francis Marion defense tightened in the second stanza allowing only four Osprey shots over the final 45 minutes.  Amanda Fischler scored the Ospreys’ fourth tally on a 4-yard tap-in of a cross from Kayla Gray at 66:11.
