NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team took last season’s Atlantic Sun Conference champions into double-overtime before falling 2-1 to Jacksonville in the 102nd minute of play Sunday afternoon at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

The Dolphins improve to 5-4-1 and 2-0-0 in A-Sun play while the Lady Bisons slip to 2-6-2 and 0-2-0 in the loop.

“I am proud of the team, I thought we dug in and defended well,” Lipscomb head coach Kevin O’Brien said. Jacksonville is a great passing team. Our girls competed incredibly well against a talented Jacksonville team.”

Jacksonville connected in the 33rd minute when Raquel Weckhurst found Marie Weckhurst six yards in front of the net, who one-touched the ball for the goal.

Coming out of the intermission break, sophomore Baylee Linnell scored her fourth goal of the season as she got her foot on a ball just outside the 18-yard box that hit the bottom half of the cross bar and spun across the goal line to knot the game at 1-1.

Freshman Megan Miller got the Lipscomb bench on their feet in the 83rd minute when she flipped a shot at the goal but Jill D’Amico, the Dolphins goalkeeper, got a hand up in the upper corner just in time to prevent the goal.

Moving into the second overtime period, Jacksonville utilized a corner kick to set up the game-winning goal. Raquel Weckhurst took the kick that landed on the head of Kaitlyn Bassett and knocked it into the upper left corner of the goal.

“It’s not what we want,” O’Brien said. We want to win games but seeing where we came from to where we are now, I am proud of our team and just excited for our trip to Florida next week. Hopefully we can build on what we have been doing.”

The Lady Bisons travel to the state of Florida for the next round of A-Sun games taking on Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson on Friday and Sunday, respectfully.
