Panthers, Bulldogs Rumble to 1-1 Draw
October 1, 2011
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Along with battling light showers, frigid temperatures and high winds, Ohio Dominican''s women''s soccer team battled North Division foe Ferris State (Mich.) to a 1-1 draw in double overtime late Friday afternoon at Panther Field.
With their second tie of the year, the Panthers are now 2-5-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the GLIAC, while the Bulldogs moved to 4-5-2 and 4-2-2 in conference play.
ODU got the scoring going with an early corner kick from freshman Tonya Frasik (Lebanon, OH) 5:51 into the contest that junior Jennifer Holton (Johnstown, OH) was able to get a head on for her team-leading third score of the season.
In the 22nd minute, Ferris State found the equalizer as Stephanie Garland got on a breakaway and put home a rebound after Panthers keeper Laura Clark (Fr./Lapeer, MI) made a tremendous charging save near the edge of the box.
Sophomore Megan Augusta (Lyndhurst, OH) almost notched the game-winner for ODU in the 75th minute with a good look on goal, but the ball grazed the side of the near post and went wide left.
Both teams finished balanced on corners, saves and shots on goal, while the Panthers totaled an 11-7 edge on shots.
The Panthers are home this Sunday, Oct. 2 as two-time defending national champion and current fifth-ranked Grand Valley State (Mich.) visits for a 2 p.m. clash.
