Green Bay, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision in a hard-fought game with Green Bay on a chilly Wednesday night contest at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
 
Green Bay's Heidi Hartmann netted her 11^th goal of the year in the first half before the Phoenix (8-3-2, 2-1-0 Horizon) made it 2-0 midway through the second period.
 
The loss is the first for Milwaukee (5-8-1, 1-2-1) in the all-time series since 2003, still leading the series 24-7-1.
 
"This is a very disappointing result," Milwaukee head coach Greg Henschelsaid. "We came out flat for the first 30 minutes of the match. That was very disappointing to see.
 
"The team played better in the second half, which is encouraging to see, but tonight it wasn't enough."
 
After a slow start to the game, Hartmann got things going by opening up the scoring off a great individual effort, burying her shot for the early 1-0 lead at the 19:13 mark.
 
In the 35^th minute, Milwaukee nearly tied it up on an equally impressive solo performance. Maria Stephans fought through numerous defenders, dribbling through the Phoenix back line and just getting a shot off with an opponent on her back. But, her shot lodged right into the stomach of the on-rushing and sliding GB keeper.
 
Green Bay then made it 2-0 on a blast from distance in the 58^th minute by Abby Juzwik that just went over Panther keeper Paige Lincicum's hands.
 
The Panthers didn't quit, though.
 
Sophomore Taylor Swittel made the most of her season-high 38 minutes, nearly getting UWM on the board. Her rip from the right side toward the far post looked like it was headed for the back of the net, but Nastacia Behle made a diving save across her body to keep the score the same.
 
The Panthers had some great ball movement that finished with Morgan LaPlant taking the shot from inside the box, but Behle again made a diving save to keep Milwaukee at bay.
 
Green Bay outshot Milwaukee, 11-8 on the night. UWM had a 4-1 edge in corners, while GB was whistled for 11 fouls to Milwaukee's five.
 
Lincicum made seven saves on the night.
 
The Panthers return home to take on Wright State Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. from Engelmann Stadium.
