Panthers Pour In 4 Goals In League Opener

October 12, 2014

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee blasted home four goals by three different players in a 4-1 victory over UIC Wednesday night at Engelmann Stadium.

Krissy Dorre scored her first of two goals on the night in the 14th minute to open up the scoring. Dorre's second came in the 46th, while freshmen Sydney Senn and Cassidy Blanchard also found the back of the net.

Paige Lincicum had another strong night in the net, registering eight saves.

Milwaukee (4-6-0, 1-0-0 Horizon) dominated the game from start to finish; blasting 21 shots on the night that saw 20 players earn double-digit minutes.

UIC falls to 1-9-0 and 0-1-0 in league play.

"This is a good start. I'm glad with some of the adjustments our players made in the second half," Milwaukee head coach Greg Henschel said. "I thought our play in the first half was not very sharp, but I'm pleased to see some of the adjustments we made in the second half, which ultimately led to better scoring chances and one of the goals. We've got work to do and things need to get a little cleaner, but this is a good start."

For the fourth time in the last five games, Milwaukee scored in the game's opening minutes when Dorre netted her third of the season at the 13:51 mark. The senior forward collected the ball near midfield and played a give-and-go with classmate Kelly Lewers, finishing the return feed far post for the early 1-0 lead.

UWM continued the attack, firing off shot after shot. Kelly Manski and Caity Bestwina both had great looks from inside the box but both cracks went just over the bar.

Then, just a short time after checking into the game, Senn doubled the Panther lead just before the half. The freshman gave it a rip from just inside the 18-yard box. The Flames' keeper appeared to initially make the save but the blast had too much on it as the ball bounced off her fingers and found the back of the net to make it 2-0 in the 41st minute.

Milwaukee then made it 3-0 just after the break on another goal from Dorre. Lewers again started the play, taking a feed and going toward the endline, where she took a few touches before slotted the ball perfectly to Dorre, who finished from close range just 42 seconds into the second half.

Blanchard then continued the rout for Milwaukee by scoring the first goal of her collegiate career in the 58th minute. Maria Stephans sent a corner curling into the box and Blanchard towered over the crowd of defender and headed the ball to make it 4-0 at the 57:48 mark.

UIC was able to bring one back on Haley Kittle's first of the season in the 81st minute but it was too little, too late for the Flames as Milwaukee dominated in seemingly every facet of the game.

The Panthers out shot the Flames, 21-13, and had a 7-2 edge in corners. UWM was whistled for 19 fouls to UIC's 12.

Next up for Milwaukee is a trip to Youngstown, Ohio as the Panthers get set for a Saturday noon (CST) contest with the Penguins.
