DETROIT, Mich. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's soccer team more than doubled up the University of Detroit in the shot column, but a goal remained elusive in falling by a final score of 1-0 at Titan Field Saturday afternoon.
 
The Panthers (4-10-3, 1-5-2 Horizon League) outshot the Titans (6-3-8, 2-1-5 Horizon League) by a count of 20-to-9, only to see Tyler Moorman's goal in the 60^th minute stand up as the only scoring of the game, sending Milwaukee to its eighth one-goal loss on the season.
 
The Panthers came out strong, carrying the majority of possession throughout the first 20 minutes. Senior Agustin Rey came up big when called upon, making quality saves at the 17:59 mark on a Titan break and again at 19:43 following a loose ball in the box.
 
Milwaukee countered off that miss. After advancing the ball into the offensive third, senior Declan Rodriguez was just wide on the break and sophomore Jonathan Stadler's header on the proceeding corner kick narrowly missed sneaking in at the right post.
 
Senior Zach Stevenson did his part to help UWM find a goal, accounting for a career-high seven shots – also the most for any individual player this season – including four on goal. One of those came in the 44^th minute, but a jump save from UDM keeper Nathan Steinwascher – who recorded his 18^th career shutout on the day – kept the game a scoreless tie at intermission.
 
The Titans, who have lost at home just once the entire season, took advantage of one of their few quality chances on the day at the 59:56 mark. A throw-in from midfield was headed on and flicked forward, allowing Moorman to one-touch it past Rey, who appeared screened on the play to make it 1-0.
 
In need of a goal, the Panthers pushed forward and came up with a few opportunities of their own. Sophomore Magnus Flaatedal's half-volley in front, following a headed flick from Rodriguez, went just wide in the 78^th minute and Stevenson's 25-yard free kick in the 82^nd was also saved.
 
Detroit went into time-wasting mode, dumping numerous balls long into UWM's defending third to try and kill the clock. Stevenson nearly found the equalizer in the 87^th minute, rifling a turnover in back up and over from 25 yards. Freshman Matthias Binder had the team's last shot of the day, blasting high in traffic from distance in the game's final minute.
 
For the game, UWM carried a 6-to-4 edge in shots on goal in addition to the wide margin in overall shots. Stevenson's career-high paced the individual effort on shots, with Binder finishing with four and Rodriguez with three.
 
Up next, the Panthers will close the regular season at home Friday, welcoming Northern Kentucky for "Senior Night" at Engelmann Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
