Pantuso’s Golden Goal Stuns Jayhawks

September 6, 2015

Lawrence, Kan. – Freshman Allison Pantuso scored at 91:18 on Sunday to give the Oregon State women’s soccer team a 1-0 overtime victory over Kansas in the first-ever game between the programs.

A freshman from Thousand Oaks, Calif., Pantuso knocked home the rebound off a shot by freshman Mariah Roggow for her second golden goal of the season, and her third tally overall. She also had the game-winner in a 2-1 win at Portland on Aug.21.

The Beavers (4-0-1) are off to their best start since 2010, when they won their first five games. They are 3-0-1 in overtime, and have outscored their opponents 8-2 overall.

Sophomore goalie Bella Geist had three saves in recording her second straight shutout, and her third of the season. She now has six shutouts in her career; she moved past Elizabeth Pease (1997-2000) into a seventh-place tie with Leslie Butler (1988-89) on OSU’s all-time list.

The Beavers were outshot 11-9 but had the only two shots in the overtime. Roggow led OSU with two shots on goal.

OSU resumes play at 4:30 p.m. Thursday against Texas at Austin, Tex., in a game to be televised by the Longhorn Network. OSU is 1-0 lifetime against the Longhorns thanks to a 1-0 victory in Corvallis in 2013.
