Parham’s Early Goal Lifts CC Over ’Roos

October 25, 2013

This time, last-minute heroics were not necessary.

Colorado College used an early goal from senior forward Sean Parham and another dominating defensive effort to record a 2-0 victory at Austin College on Friday afternoon.

The Tigers improved to 10-5-2 overall and 9-3-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, and remained within striking distance of Southwestern University in the battle for second place and a bye in the first round of the SCAC championship.

Parham struck for the only goal CC would need in the ninth minute, converting off a feed from senior forward Brandon Ogilvie. It was Parham’s second game winner of season and the fifth of his career.

Ogilvie, who leads the team with 26 points, has been involved in six game-winning goals in 2013, scoring four and assisting on two others.

Colorado College added an insurance tally 6:03 into the second half when sophomore midfielders Seth Newby and Max Grossenbacher combined for Newby’s fourth goal of the season.

Sophomore Ian Horne stopped three shots while recording his seventh shutout of the campaign.

The Tigers held an opponent to fewer than five shots on goal for the 12th time in 2013.

CC finished with a 19-7 advantage in total shots, while the ’Roos had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Austin's Andrew Celio finished with eight saves and got some help from his defense on a shot by sophomore midfielder Ryan Huettel midway through the first half.

The ’Roos dropped to 3-10-3 overall and 3-7-2 in the SCAC.

Colorado College completes its two-game road trip on Sunday when the Tigers visit Centenary College at 11 a.m. CT.
