FLORENCE, SC – Coming off a win this weekend, Francis Marion University battled Young Harris College tough on Senior Day before succumbing to the Mountain Lions 8-0, Monday afternoon (Oct. 24) in Peach Belt Conference women’s soccer action.

FMU will play its final match of the 2016 season on Wednesday at Flagler College.  Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.

Prior to Monday’s contest, seniors Kelly Anthony, Allie Duckworth, and Tori Whigham were recognized and praised for the accomplishments over the past four years.  The trio combined to start 144 matches over that span.

Baylee Roche and Amber Matthews scored first-half goals for Young Harris (8-2-3, 7-2-1), but Francis Marion held the score at 2-0 through the opening 52 minutes.

Prior to the first goal, Francis Marion ventured into the Young Harris end and had several dangerous crosses that did not find the foot of a Patriot.  FMU earned a fifth-minute corner kick, but the attempt by freshman Carli Gauthier was cleared by the Mountain Lions.

Young Harris added scores in the 53rd and 68th minutes and later tallied three scores in the final seven minutes.

Anthony led FMU with six shots, while Whigham registered two.

Patriot sophomore goalkeeper Casey Murakami made a career-high 13 saves, while Young Harris junior goalkeeper Kylie Mason recorded two stops.
