Patriots ground Flying Fleet 3-0

DUE WEST, SC - Senior Chuy Cruz and junior Cody Farrier both tallied goals as Francis Marion University blanked Erskine College 3-0, Saturday evening (Sept. 15) in non-conference men's soccer action.

FMU improves to 2-3-0 with its second straight win, while Erskine drops to 2-2-1. The Patriots return to Peach Belt Conference action for their next match, playing at the University of Montevallo on Saturday at 7 p.m. (central time).

Freshman goalkeeper Taylor King need to make only one save en route to his first career shutout. Francis Marion outshot the Flying Fleet 20-5 and led in corner kicks 4-2. King and the Patriot defensive backline allowed only one shot on goal and that came in the final minute of action.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when an Erskine defender deflected the ball into the Flying Fleet netting for an own goal.

Farrier scored for the second straight match to double the Patriots advantage to 2-0 at the 51:59 mark. Cruz concluded the scoring with an unassisted goal at 67:46 when he controlled a loose ball at the top of the box and shot into the upper left corner of the Erskine goal.
