WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (www.purduesports.com) – On a rainy day at the Varsity Soccer Complex all four goals were scored by players named Jordan, highlighted by a hat trick from Jordan Pawlik, in Purdue women’s soccer’s 4-0 victory against Evansville Sunday afternoon.

Pawlik recorded only the fourth hat trick in program history, accounting for the Boilers’ first three goals of the day. The junior had missed the first two games of the team’s current six-game homestand after suffering a concussion in practice last Sunday. She now leads the team with five goals, all five coming as part of multi-goal efforts.

Jordan Frick scored the final goal of the day, registering her second collegiate score to cap a wild sequence in the 66th minute that saw Purdue (4-2) hit the post twice and an Evansville (1-4) defender knock down a shot on the goal line for a team save.

Three goalkeepers saw action on the day for the Boilermakers. Clara Kridler played the first 68 minutes and made four saves. Yana Lyon took over after Purdue had gone up 4-0 but was limited by soreness in her legs. Freshman Samantha Rosa got the call to finish out the victory, making her collegiate debut, and made a pair of saves in the final minutes to preserve the shutout. Having blanked Tennessee-Martin on Friday, the Boilers have now posted consecutive shutouts for the first time since September 2010.

Pawlik and Purdue blew the game open in the second half after leading 1-0 at the break. Pawlik scored twice in just over three minutes early in the second half to complete her natural hat trick. Evansville had otherwise played the Boilers pretty even in the first half and that was the frustrating part of the win for head coach Robert Klatte and his staff on an otherwise successful day on the home pitch.

Alex Hairston helped setup each of Pawlik’s first two goals for her second multi-assist effort of the weekend. Chinyelu Asher, Hadley Stuart and Shae Desmond also helped create goals for their teammates in the victory.

Pawlik joined Kellie Phillips (2011 vs. Indiana), Jessica Okoroafo (2007 vs. Indiana) and Courtney Coppedge (2003 vs. Arkansas) as Boilers to record hat tricks in program history. Coopedge also scored the first three goals of the 2003 victory vs. Arkansas (in a game played in Columbia, Mo.) to account for the only other natural hat trick in the Purdue record book.

Pawlik opened the scoring by knocking in a rebound in the 22nd minute. Asher connected a right-to-left cross to Hairston on the right side of the 18-yard box. Evansville goalkeeper Chaviel Harrison made a save on Hairston’s shot but gave up a big rebound on the far side of the play. Pawlik was in a prime position to bury her follow up shot into a wide open net.

In the 52nd minute, Pawlik scored into the top half of the net after a short centering pass inside the 18-yard box from Hairston. Another well placed shot inside the left post in the 56th minute allowed Pawlik to finish off her hat trick. Stuart connected the right-to-left pass to her classmate to setup the goal.

Frick scored from the left side of the 18-yard box. Her shot caromed into the net off the left post.

Harrison had made diving saves on shots by Stuart and Pawlik early in the second half as Purdue amped up the offensive pressure early in the second half.

Kridler’s best save of the day allowed Purdue to maintain its 1-0 lead late in the first half. Evansville had a free kick opportunity from the left flank and utilized a set play to create a shot for Kayla Smith. Kridler was in position to make the save at the left post.

Center backs Kim Love and Jessica Warren and defensive midfielder Melissa Casella went the distance among the Purdue field players. Tayler Francel logged 60 minutes to lead the reserves. She was one of four Boilers to play 45-plus minutes off the bench.

Purdue continues its six-game homestand Friday against Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
