PEACOCKS TAKE DOWN HORNETS, 2-1

September 19, 2013

(Jersey City, N.J.) – In what was a valiant effort in search of its first win, the Delaware State women’s soccer team (0-6) erased a two-score deficit late in the second period, but managed to fall short on the road to the Saint Peter’s Peacocks (2-4), 2-1.

To get things started, Saint Peter’s took a 1-0 lead during the 32nd minute when midfielder Kaitlyn Lima (1) found midfielder Greta Vogel (2) for the goal.

Despite down being, the Hornets were able to keep the Peacocks at bay the rest of the period, in spite of Saint Peter’s registering nine shots compared to DSU’s two. In the net, meanwhile, junior Katelyn Koslosky (0-6) tallied four stops.

After intermission, same score, the Peacocks extended their lead during the 66th minute when the team’s leading scorer, Ashley Drozd (1), made a pass to midfielder Shannon Nutly (1) for the score.

However, the Hornets cut the deficit in half during the 77th minute when midfielder Kaitlyn Schech (1) scored first goal of the season for DSU.  Defender Tori Hamilton (1) was credited with an assist as well.

Nevertheless, Delaware State could not get over the hump as Saint Peter’s was able to hold on for the win.

When the final buzzer sounded, the Hornets registered five shots with three placed on-goal, whereas the Peacocks tallied 12 attempts with seven placed on-goal.

Koslosky, meanwhile, recorded five saves, while her counterpart Molly O’Halloran (2-4) totaled two stops on the night.

Coming up, DSU will wrap up its season-long five-game road trip on Sunday against Mount St. Mary’s at 1 p.m.
