Senior midfielder Hannah Peterson struck for a pair of goals in the first half to power Colorado College to a 4-0 victory over Bryant University on Friday afternoon at CC’s Stewart Field.

Peterson struck for the only goal the Tigers would need just 15 minutes into the game when she knocked in a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Kaeli Vandersluis. It proved to be the first game winner of her career.

With the victory, Colorado College improved to 2-1-3 and snapped a four-game winless streak.

“We’ve been talking recently about not losing at home,” Peterson said. “We haven't lost here at home yet this season, but we also haven't won. This was our chance to put a game away and to show we can win during a four home-game stretch.”

CC took command by scoring twice in a span of 1:17 on nearly identical shots midway through the first half.

Peterson completed the first two-goal performance of her career when she curled a shot from 20 yards out on the left side into the right side of the net.

“Hanna had a good game today,” head coach Geoff Bennett said. “When she controls her emotions like she did today, she is unbelievably important for us. She’s a worker. She’s not one to rest on her laurels. She’ll keep getting better and better.”

Less than two minutes later, junior midfielder Madison Whitehead’s bender from the same spot gave the Tigers a three-goal advantage with 14:15 remaining in the half.

The Bulldogs nearly got on the board during the 43rd minute when freshman forward Rachel Ivanicki slipped around her mark, but senior goalkeeper Hanna Berglund got just enough of the ball to send it over the crossbar.

Berglund had to make just two saves en route to her 10th career shutout. The second of those stops occurred with a little more than four minutes remaining in the contest when she steered a shot by junior forward Shana Follette off the left post.

Junior goalkeeper Lauren Viverito saw considerably more action, making eight saves on Colorado College’s 20 shots. She also got some help from the crossbar on a shot by junior midfielder Jessie Ayers in the 63rd minute, as well as from senior midfielder Alex Bengston, who kept Kecia Morway’s back kick out of the net with a little more than 20 minutes to play.

Viverito was not able to stop freshman defender Sam Curran from adding a fourth goal for the Tigers in the 87th minute. Curran blocked a clearing pass, picked up the rebound and calmly moved around the Bulldog’s keeper and slid the ball into an open net for her first collegiate goal.

The Tiger defense allowed just four shots and two corner kickers en route to its third shutout of the season.

“We’re happy with today,” Bennett said. “Big picture wise, it’s one win and we’ve won one game out of our last five. We need to keep our eye on the ball and win on Sunday. That’s our challenge. Can we do it again on Sunday?”

Colorado College plays host to Robert Morris University on Sunday at 11 a.m.
