EDISON, N.J. – Senior goalkeeper Brett Petricek was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Week after a solid showing in goal for the Niagara men’s soccer team in the Smith Barney Classic this past weekend.

The Woodbridge, Ill. native helped the Purple Eagles to a pair of hard fought double-overtime draws, securing his first two shutouts of the season.

In the scoreless game against New Hampshire on Friday, Petricek made a season-high eight saves, while stopping all five Vermont shots on Sunday in the 0-0 tie.

Petricek saw 220 minutes of action this weekend, averaging a 1.00 save percentage to earn himself a spot on the all-tournament team.

Petricek and the Purple Eagles travel to Dayton, Ohio this Friday to play Wright State at 8 p.m.  Niagara then returns to Monteagle Ridge the following Friday to host the St. Francis (Pa.) Red Flash at 7 p.m.
