Pinnella's Four Goals Lead Centenary To Victory

September 21, 2011
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (September 21, 2011) – Senior Andrew Pinnella (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) scored a personal-best four goals to lead the Centenary men’s soccer team (4-1-2) to a 5-3 win over PSU-Brandywine (3-3-1), Wednesday at Cyclone Field in Hackettstown, N.J. Pinnella’s four scores gives him 84 points and puts him in first-place all-time in program history in that category.

Pinnella’s scoring output surpasses his previous career-high of three, which he set on Monday against Brooklyn. On Wednesday, the Cyclones outshot PSU, 41-12, including a 23-3 edge in the second half. CC took 12 corner kicks and limited Brandywine to three.

Pinnella netted his first in the 11th minute when fellow classmate Mike Goepp (Hackettstown, N.J./Pope John XXIII) found him for the goal. After Brandywine took a 2-1 lead in the 38th minute, freshman Michael Marin (Union City, N.J./Union City) was taken down in the box and Centenary was awarded the penalty kick. Pinnella made good on the attempt to tie the game and move into first-place in program history in points. Junior Alex Khouri (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) gave the Cyclones the lead for good in the 39th minute with a blast to the back of the net and CC went into halftime holding a 3-2 advantage.

Pinnella’s offensive day wasn’t finished, however. The senior opened the second half with a laser from just outside the box that flew past the outstretched arms of PSU keeper CJ Gamber. In the 63rd minute, freshman Quinn Khouri (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) drove from the left side into the box and found Pinnella in front of the net. His shot marked his seventh goal in the past two games.

Senior goalkeeper Jason Rogers (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) recorded four saves in the victory while Gamber kept Brandywine in the game with 14 stops.
