WAIPAHU, HAWAII — Florida Gulf Coast's Melissa Arnold scored in the 55th minute off an assist from Tabitha Tindell to lead the Eagles past the Portland State women's soccer team, 1-0, Friday at the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic, hosted by the University of Hawaii.

The Eagles (4-1-1) extended their unbeaten streak to five matches with the win, having not lost since a season-opening defeat to then-No. 9 Florida. The loss for the Vikings (2-4-0), meanwhile, snapped a two-match winning streak for the team.

PSU's defense had been holding off the Eagles' attack before Arnold's goal, even as the Eagles took a 10-0 shot advantage into halftime. PSU goalkeeper Caitlin Plese withstood the Eagles barrage, making three saves in goal for the Vikings.

Plese and defense kept the match close after the goal, too, as they kept the Eagles, who are coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance last season, out of the goal for the rest of the match.

The Vikings play a final match in the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic Sunday, Sept. 15, as they face host Hawaii at 8 p.m. (PT). An all-tournament team will be selected after the match.
