Rangers #1 on NSCAA National Coaches Poll 3rd Consecutive Week

KANSAS CITY, Kan.: Regis University men's soccer has ranked #1 on the NSCAA national coach's poll for three consecutive weeks.  This is the second week in a row, the Rangers have been ranked #1 on the NSCAA South Central Regioinal Poll as well.

The Rangers remain the only undefeated NCAA Division II men's soccer team in the nation, as well as becoming the second RMAC team all-time to stay undefeated throughout regular season play.

After a weekend on the road, Regis finished RMAC regular season play 14-0-0 in the conference and 16-0-1 overall.

Tuesday, Regis defeated Colorado Mines 1-0.  Senior defender David Key scored the game-winner for the Rangers and was assisted by senior Alex Tarnoczi and sophomoreMartin Maybin.

Friday, the Rangers shut out the Grizzlies of Adams State College 3-0.  SophomoreAdam Tormoehlen netted one goal and assisted on one other for the Rangers, while Maybin assisted on two.  Seniors Stephen Reed and Mark Kelly also put one through for the Ranger offense.

In the last RMAC regular season match Sunday, the Rangers had a tough rematch with defending national champions Fort Lewis College.  Regis went down to a 1-0 deficit in the first half, but came back to tie early in the second half after senior defender Michael Sheehan headed the ball to even the score.  Kelly netted the game-winner in the 71st minute to give Regis the advantage.

On the week, freshman goalkeeper Christian Nicolosi earned 10 saves while allowing only one goal in 270 minutes in between the posts for a 0.33 goals against average.

As a team, the Rangers rank second in the nation in scoring offense (3.41), total goals (58) and total points (158) and sixth in total assists (42). 

Maybin ranks 11th in points per game and total assists, 12th in total points, 16th in assists per game, 18th in total goals and 19th in goals per game.  In the RMAC, the forward ranks second with nine assists and 33 points and third with goals scored.

Nicolosi ranks 19th in the nation with a .751 goals against average.  He is first in the RMAC in both goals against average and goals against with 11 scored on him all season.  He also ranks second in the RMAC with a .761 save percentage.

Senior Alex Tarnoczi and sophomore Logan Miller are tied fifth in the RMAC with nine goals scored apiece and junior Justin Ortinau ranks third in the RMAC with eight assists on the season.

On Friday, Nov. 2, top seed Regis will host the winner between UC-Colorado Springs and Colorado Mesa at 2:30 p.m.  Second seed Colorado Mines will host the winner between Fort Lewis and Metro State at 2:30 p.m.

The RMAC men's soccer championship game will be held Sunday, Nov. 4 at the highest remaining seed following Friday's games.
