Rangers Handle Adams State on the Road
Denver, Colorado: Junior midfielder Jacob Martinez (Colorado Springs, Colorado) had a breakout night in the Regis University Rangers Men’s Soccer team 3-0 shutout over the Adams State Grizzlies (1-5). Martinez scored the first two goals of the match; the second was the game-winner, to move the Rangers to an overall record of 5-1 and 3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Martinez first goal came after the opening whistle in just the third minute of play from freshman midfielder Luca Rigonati (Carpinteria, California). Finding his second goal of the season in the 36th minute, Martinez found the back of the net, this time unassisted.
Senior forward Martin Maybin (Belfast, Northern Ireland) finished the scoring off in the 59th minute notching his seventh goal this season. Ranger goalkeepers Connor Adkisson (Federal Way, Washington) and Christian Nicolosi (Highlands Ranch, Colorado) split halves each recording 45 minutes of action. Adkisson earned the start but it was Nicolosi that tallied three saves in the second half to keep a clean sheet for Regis. RU outshot the Grizzlies 10-4 and saw seven corner kick chances to ASU’s three.
With another day off between RMAC matches, the Rangers travel to Fort Lewis on Sunday, September 28 for a 2:30 p.m. kick-off.
