Razorbacks fall to Georgia on senior day

October 27, 2013

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Razorback soccer team (11-7, 4-6) honored it four seniors before a 1-0 loss to Georgia (12-5-1, 5-4-1) on a sunny day at Razorback Field.

Seniors Jessie Givens, Taylor Green, Evan Palmer and Yvonne DesJarlais were honored on the field prior to the start, as each of the four seniors recorded a start for the match. Givens recorded on shot in the match while DesJarlais picked up two shots with one on frame and Palmer had a shot saved off of a one-on-one opportunity late in the second half.

Georgia’s Madeline Barker scored the only goal of the match in the 10th minute when she bent in the ball off of one of Georgia’s 11 corner kicks.

"I know this is a cliché but soccer is a cruel, cruel game,” head coach Colby Hale said. “I thought we did everything we could, I thought we played well enough to win. Georgia is good, they had some good chances as well but after they bent a shot in off of a corner kick. It just didn’t feel like our day even though our players did everything they could to win. We had to take some risks in the second half to get a goal. We created some pretty good chances and I thought the backs played pretty well, so I am really proud of them and we are playing really good soccer right now."

The Razorbacks had six attempts on goal including two defensive saves on shots from sophomore Ashleigh Ellenwood and junior Tyler Allen. The Razorbacks shot 13 times at the Bulldogs but their Keeper Caitlin Woody held strong with four saves.

Freshman keeper Cameron Carter recorded a season high seven saves during the match while only giving up one goal after facing 14 shots from Georgia.

The Razorbacks return to the pitch on Thursday, Oct. 31, to host Missouri at Razorback field for the team’s final regular-season match with the opening kick scheduled for 7 p.m.
