Razorbacks win in OT at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Ten. – After battling from behind four different times during the match, the Razorback soccer team (10-5, 3-4) picked up their fourth golden goal victory of the season in the 90th minute over Vanderbilt Friday night by a score of 5-4.

Sophomore Ashleigh Ellenwood score two goals in the match including her fifth game-winner in the first minute of overtime to complete the Razorbacks come from behind win. The Razorbacks are now 7-1 when Ellenwood scores a goal in the match.

Vanderbilt would strike first again in the second half to take the lead over the Razorbacks 3-2, junior defender would answer in the 66th minute with her second goal of the season to tie the match at 3-3. The scoring would not end there, Vanderbilt netted their fourth goal of the match in the 78th minute to take the lead over the Razorbacks for the fourth time during the match.

Junior Tyler Allen was able to find the goal for the final equalizer of the match to make the score 4-4 in the 81st minute, Arkansas defense would hold strong to finish regulation and force extra minutes for the sixth time this season. Arkansas now moves to 4-2 in overtime matches on the season, and the five goals scored in the match are a season high for the Razorbacks.

“It was a crazy game,” head coach Colby Hale said. “We kind of expected this to be high scoring based on both teams recent form. I am obviously proud of the team. Any time you come back four times in one game, it speaks to some of the many impressive qualities of this group. This is an important three points for us. We will celebrate tonight and get ready for a very good Tennessee team tomorrow.”

In the first half the Razorbacks were trailing on two separate occasions to the Commodores. Vanderbilt, would strike first in the 11th minute of the match before Ellenwood was able to find the back of the net for the eighth time this season. Vanderbilt would take the lead again in the 12th minute, but the lead would last for three minutes before senior Yvonne DesJarlais evened the match at 2-2 to lead into halftime.

The Razorbacks return to the pitch this Sunday, Oct. 20, to host Tennessee at Razorback Field. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. kick.
