FULLERTON, Calif. -- Texas Tech’s Paige Strahan scored the eventual game-winner in the 82nd minute and Janine Beckie added a first-half strike Sunday afternoon, lifting the visiting Red Raiders to a, 2-1, win over host Cal State Fullerton and the championship of the Under Armour Invitational at Titan Stadium.

Freshman Christina Burkenroad scored her third goal of the match late for the Titans (3-6 overall), but it wasn’t enough to stop Fullerton from falling by a 2-1 score for the fifth time in six losses this season. Fullerton has yet to be shutout in 2012 and has had every match, save Friday night’s 3-0 win over Army, decided by a single goal.

Texas Tech improved to 7-2 overall on the year with the victory, getting six shots from Beckie, who was named the MVP of the tournament.

Beckie was the first to break the ice just 13 minutes in as she converted an uncovered rebound and tapped it into a wide open net for her third goal of the weekend and a, 1-0, Red Raiders lead. She had a second goal negated due to offsides after passes from Jessica Fuston and Strahan found her open on the left just seven minutes into the second half and another on a chip in the 79th minute was denied after clanging off the right post.

Strahan’s eventual game-winner with just under nine minutes to play came just outside the box on the right side, controlling and spinning around a defender before lofting one into the upper right corner for the 2-0 lead.

Fullerton got one goal back two minutes later as Burkenroad converted a cross by sophomore Lauren Stupin, skying above the defense and heading it down and in off the crossbar to make it, 2-1, with six minutes to play. That would be as close as the Titans would get, however, as Texas Tech ran the clock out to end the match.

The Titans outshot the Red Raiders, 14-11, and had three corner kicks to just one for Texas Tech. Victoria Esson and Lindsey Maricic each made four saves in net for their respective sides.

Cal State Fullerton doesn’t return to the field until Sept. 28 to open Big West Conference play against UC Irvine at Titan Stadium at 5 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the Titan men’s team. Fullerton then hosts Long Beach State on Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. in the first match of another doubleheader with the men’s side.

Jessika Oseguera finished with a goal and an assist while Eileen Maes’ netted her third goal of the tournament on Sunday morning, lifting 20th-ranked Long Beach State to a, 2-0, shutout of Army.

After a scoreless first half, Maes broke through with the game-winner in the 69th minute, finding herself wide open on the left side and tapping home a cross from Oseguera back to the right post for her fourth of the season and the 1-0 lead. Oseguera then capped the scoring in the 82nd minute, slamming home a rebound off a shot by Elizabeth Lyons for her second of the year.

The 49ers outshot the Black Knights, 12-9, while goalkeeper Marrina Meyers finished with two saves in posting the shutout. Maes finished with three shots to lead all players for Long Beach State while Katie Holder had two shots to pace Army.
