LUBBOCK, TX - A pesky Francis Marion University squad put up a hard fight for 90 minutes, but the Patriots fell to Texas Tech University 3-0, Sunday afternoon (Oct. 14) in women’s soccer action at the John Walker Soccer Complex.

Francis Marion drops to 6-8-1 on the season and will next face nationally ranked Duke University on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Durham, N.C.

Texas Tech outshot the Patriots by a 35-5 margin, and with the victory improved to 12-4. Meanwhile, the Red Raiders now boast a nearly unblemished 7-1 record at home.

Texas Tech, who honored nine student-athletes on Senior Day prior to the match, completed a weekend sweep with back-to-back shutouts after taking a 1-0 win over the University of Texas in Austin on Friday night.   The 12 wins are just one victory shy of the single-season program record of 13 set in 1996.

FMU freshman goalkeeper Taylor O’Berry finished with a career-high 16 saves.  The Red Raiders also took all seven of the match’s corner kicks.

Sophomore forward Dominique Evans led Francis Marion with two shots and had the only on-frame attempt for the Patriots, a strike in the 32nd minute that forced a save by Red Raider keeper Alexis Braziel.

Just 57 seconds into the match, Texas Tech got on the board compliments of an own-goal by Francis Marion, which deflected a Red Raider strike into its own net.

Jessica Disabella gave Texas Tech a 2-0 lead in the 25th minute with a powerful strike from the left side that beat O'Berry to her left. The strike came off an assist from freshman Caity Heap.

Senior Leah Christensen tallied her first career goal in the 86th minute to complete the scoring.
