Redhawk Men's Soccer Battles UC Davis to 1-1 Double Overtime Draw

October 9, 2011
In a 110 minute battle at the Aggie Soccer Field, the Seattle University men's soccer team took host UC Davis to a 1-1 double overtime draw Friday evening. The Redhawks, who got on the board first, managed to prevent a strong UCD offensive attack from scoring the go-ahead goal in the extra period match.

In the sixth minute, freshman Travis Heim (Ridgefield, Wash.) scored his first career goal to give the Redhawks the early lead. Sophomore Ben Striar (Portland, Ore.) got the ball and passed it to Heim in traffic. Heim put a lone touch on it and sent in the go-ahead goal.

After back-and-forth play, with possession transferring between sides, UC Davis evened the game in the 25th minute. Kevin Schulte headed in a cross from Ethan Shawlee.

Following conceding the tying goal, SU's defense was put on their heels. The Aggies pushed their offensive attack and worked to take the lead; however goalkeeper Jake Feener (Rocklin, Calif.) and the SU backline held off Davis' continued efforts.  Feener would go on to tally eight saves, in his fourth career clean sheet.

UCD held a 24-12 shot and 13-6 corner kick advantage over the Redhawks in the extra minute contest.

"Today was a tough battle for the guys. We had chances, but UC Davis is a good team. To stay in it and take them to a double overtime draw was a good step for the team.  We have to build on what we did today going into Sunday's game at Cal Poly," said head coach Brad Agoos.

The Redhawks (0-1-1) travel next to Cal Poly for a Sunday, Sept. 4, matchup at 1 p.m. in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
