Redhawk Women's Soccer Drop 2-0 Decision to Boise State
The chances were there, but the Seattle University women's soccer team was unable to capitalize on them as they dropped a 2-0 decision to Boise State Sunday at Championship Field. This was the Redhawks second multi-goal shutout loss in as many games, dropping SU to 8-5 on the year. BSU improved to 5-7-1 with the clean sheet.
In the first half, the Redhawks continuously knocked on the Broncos door; however, despite their 17-1 shot advantage, their attempts were unrewarded. The Boise State defensive line prevented many clear looks for the Seattle U offensive attack and kept the game scoreless going into halftime.
Similarly, in the second half, it was the SU offense that got things going immediately again deep in the BSU half. A defensive miscue in the 52nd minute by the Redhawks provided the lift the Broncos needed. Katy Oehring sailed a long ball into the SU half to Kati Lucas. Lucas was able to make a touch on it and flick the game-winner in over Seattle U goalkeeper Madison Goverde's (Snohomish, Wash.) head.
In the 86th minute, another long ball found a sprinting Lucas, who shot in her second goal of the game from 15 yards out.
The Redhawks outshot the Broncos 27-7, with a 9-4 on target advantage. SU also had 12 corner kicks in the match to BSU's pair.
Seattle U will look to bounce back next week at home versus Hawaii. The Redhawks will host UH on Sunday, Oct. 9, in a 1 p.m. match. The game will also mark SU's Think Pink match benefitting the Susan G. Koman Foundation of Puget Sound.
