The University of Redlands women's soccer team traveled to Texas for a pair of games over the weekend but poor field conditions and inclement weather moved Friday's contest against the University of Texas-Dallas to Saturday morning.  Despite a quick score early in the first half, the Bulldogs suffered a tough 1-2 loss to the Comets in non-conference action.

The Maroon and Gray jumped on the board early, as sophomore midfielder Eva Vlassopoulos (Portland, OR) sent a useful cross from the left flank. Senior forward Adi Fellows (Albuquerque, NM) corralled the ball and found the back of the net for the go-ahead score at the 9:54-mark.

Less than two minutes later, senior midfielder Madison Mills (San Ramon, CA) blasted a shot on goal, which forced the Comets' goalkeeper to make the save.

The momentum shifted in favor of UT-Dallas, which earned back-to-back corner kicks.  Nonetheless, the Bulldog defense kept the Comets off the board by blocking two shots, while junior goalkeeper Brittany Dinkins (Renton, WA) made a quality save.

The back-and-forth style of play continued, with each team creating chances to score.  The Bulldogs attempted to make a push at the end of the half with two late shots on goal, but neither connected.

During the second half, UTD came out with a new sense of urgency and scored on a header off of a corner kick in the 47th minute.  A short time later, the Comets took advantage of a scramble in the front of the net to gain a 2-1 lead.

With about 30 minutes remaining in the game, the Bulldogs continued to fight for the equalizer, Mills, junior forward Gabby Hart (Sammamish, WA), and senior midfielder Rachel Tungol (San Ramon, CA) recorded quality looks at the net.  However, the Comets' defense refused to give in and ultimately sent Redlands home with a tough loss. 

By the final whistle, each team had uncorked 15 shots, while Redlands held a slim, 5-4 advantage on corner kicks.   

Originally, Redlands (1-2) was slated for a night game against Lesley University (MA) to close out the Texas trip.  However, poor field conditions have forced the game to be cancelled.

As a result, the Bulldogs return home for their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener against Occidental College on Wednesday, September 12.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Farquhar Field.
