Regis Places 5 on Daktronics All-Region Team

#3 Men’s Soccer Places Five on Daktronics All-South Central Region Teams; Diem, Maybin and Miller to First

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.:  Regis men's soccer placed five on the Daktronics All-South Central Region teams today, including three to first team.  The Rangers finished 2012 with a 17-2-1 overall record and a perfect 14-0-0 RMAC record.

Senior Taylor Diem and sophomores Martin Maybin and Logan Miller were all given first team accolades for their performances on the match pitch this season.

Diem was named RMAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-RMAC First Team honors after leading the Rangers to a 0.94 goals against average.  The defender also netted two goals, including one game-winner, while assisting on four others for eight points on the season. 

Maybin led the Rangers with 15 goals, including three game-winners, and 10 assists for 40 points.  He maintained a .688 shot on goal percentage after putting 33 of his 48 shots on goal.  The forward was also a member of the All-RMAC First Team and All-Tournament Team this season.

Miller scored nine goals for the Rangers and assisted three others for 21 points.  He netted three game-winning goals and put 5-of-7 penalty kicks through for goals.  The midfielder was named to the All-RMAC First Team and All-Tournament team as well as being named to the Capitol One Academic All-District First Team.

Senior Alex Tarnoczi and freshman Christian Nicolosi were named to the Daktronics Second Team for their performances during the 2012 season.

Tarnoczi netted nine goals and assisted on seven others for 25 points.  He scored three game-winning goals for the Rangers and was named to the All-RMAC First Team.  The forward put 25 of his 58 shots on goal for a .431 shot on goal percentage.

Nicolosi had a breakout freshman season in between the posts for Regis, going 17-2-1 overall and posting seven shutouts throughout.  He maintained a 0.74 goals against average after allowing only 14 goals overall and recorded a .759 save percentage after putting up 44 saves.  He was named RMACs October Athlete of the Month and RMAC Defensive Player of the Week twice throughout the season.

The Rangers finished 2012 with an RMAC regular season Championship under their belt, as well as their first ever NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance ever.  With a record high 17 wins, the Rangers topped the Regis record books in points (173), points per game (8.65), goals (64), goals per game (3.2) and game-winning goals (17), among others.

Their undefeated conference season was the second all-time in RMAC history as well as another first for the Rangers.  Regis stayed #1 on the NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll for three weeks, as well as owning a spot on the poll for 10 straight weeks after their first ranking on September 11th, 2012.  The #1 ranking was the first top spot ranking in Regis Ranger history for any sport.
