Reid Notches Hat Trick in Warhawk Win

September 9, 2015

Last time the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team played North Park UniversityBrianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) notched a second half hat trick. This time she did it the first half as the Warhawks went on to win 8-0 at home and improve to 3-1 this season. The Vikings fall to 1-2.

Reid wasted little time in duplicating her feat from a year ago. Wednesday, her first goal came in the 2nd minute, the next in the 4th minute, and the last in the 16th minute. By then it was already 4-0 and the Warhawks were cruising. Morgan Beaty (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) added a goal between Reid's second and third. Beaty also assisted Reid's first goal while Carina Krausert (Delafield, Wis./Catholic Memorial) and Mackenzie Serbousek (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Cedar Rapids Prairie)assisted her second and third goals, respectively.

When asked about his team's performance after the game, Head Coach Ryan Quamme stated, "It was a quick start. We've asked them to be assertive."

Four goals in the first 16 minutes is definitely an assertion, and even after a mass substitution at 16:32, the Warhawks continued to pressure the visitors. Karina Rosales (Batavia, Ill./Batavia)capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity in the 27th minute to make it 5-0 and Alexis Maze(Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) notched goals in the 40th and 42nd minute for a 7-0 lead at the half. Maze was assisted by Brianna Greefkes (West Bend, Wis./West Bend West) and Jordan Jackson(Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich).

"Depth is definitely a strength of our team and it's paid off" Quamme said after the match in which 31 different players saw the field.

Until Wednesday's match, Erin Doody (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) had played every minute in goal for the Warhawks. In the second half Elly Diderrich (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) made her debut. Like Doody, Diderrich only had to make one save in her 45 minutes of play.

The Warhawks also added a goal in the 54th minute when Leah Nehila (Round Lake, Ill./Grant Community) found Alyssa Shipon (Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) for her first collegiate goal.

UW-Whitewater outshot the Vikings 21-3 in the match.

The last time the Warhawks scored eight or more goals in a game was when they did it in back-to-back games in 2014. The Warhawks defeated UW-Superior 8-0 on October 25 and Marian (Wis.) 8-0 on October 29.

Coach Quamme and the Warhawks will seek a bit of revenge in their next match on Saturday. The Warhawks will host MSOE who defeated UW-Whitewater 2-0 last season. The match is slated to begin at noon at Fiskum Field.
