Fort Wayne, IN – As part of the new Warrior Pride program, each month the athletic department will name one male and one female athlete the Warrior of the Month.  Athletes can earn recognition for their hard work on the field, excellence in the classroom, or being active in their community.

The Warrior of the Month Award winners for the month of September are men’s soccer player Reece Richardson and Megan Garrison of the women’s golf team.

Reece Richardson, a sophomore goalkeeper from Halifax, England, has helped get the Indiana Tech men’s soccer team off to a terrific 7-3 start under first year Head Coach David Bokhart. In his eight starts, Richardson holds a 7-1 mark, recording three shutouts with a .870 save percentage. He has twice been named the WHAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and ranks first in the conference with 0.88 goals against per game. In addition to his excellent performances on the field, he spearheaded the team’s Fort 4 Fitness participation and is the emotional and psychological leader of the team. He has been invaluable to the coaching staff communicating team policies and expectations during the transition to the new coaching leadership.

Megan Garrison, a junior from Burlington, Indiana, has been the women’s golf team’s team captain for the past two years and has been the team’s top scorer in every tournament so far this season. En route to winning individual honors at the Hanover College Fall Invite, Garrison broke her own 36-hole low round school record, shooting a 153 with rounds of 79 and 74 and was named the WHAC Women’s Golfer of the Week for her efforts. She was also the first traditional day student at Tech to lead a team to victory at the TWIST golf tournament. Garrison is on pace to be an Academic All-American and Academic All-Conference with a 3.7 GPA.
