Rosemont Edged by Goucher In Overtime
BALTIMORE – The Rosemont Ravens showed significant improvement tonight, but the host Goucher College Gophers managed to survive Rosemont's late comeback goal to reclaim the lead and the game with 1:31 remaining in overtime to nip the Ravens 2-1. With the result the Ravens have a 0-2 record while Goucher moved to 1-1 with the win.
The first goal of the game came from Goucher's Drew Phillips on a feed from Dustin Taylor in the 42nd minute to take a 1-0 lead that would hold into the half. In the second half both teams had scoring opportunities, and the ticking clock applied additional pressure for Rosemont to somehow find the equalizer. The tying goal came off the boot of Anthony Bottoms in the 89th minute of the game, with an assist from Brett Krajewskito knot the game at 1-1 with 1:35 left.
In the overtime, both teams played closely over the first eight minutes with neither team able to muster a shot of any kind. But with 1:31 left on the clock, Goucher's Jeremy Hardy hit a golden goal to claim the win on the first shot by either team in the overtime.
Zach Bowe saved five of the seven Gopher shots on goal. Goucher's keeper, Daniel Hendry, made saves on seven of eight Rosemont shots on frame.
A look at the stat sheet showed two evenly matched teams. The shots were 14-13 in favor of Goucher, but Rosemont led in shots on goal, 8-7.
Although the Ravens lost this contest, they looked much better compared to their opening game. The hope is that the team continues that positive momentum and turns it into a win very soon. The next opportunity for the Ravens will happen very soon, as they will host the Haverford Fords on Sunday at the Ravens Athletic Complex in a non-conference game that will start at 6:00pm.
