ST. AUGUSTINE, FL – Francis Marion University couldn't recover after being hit early with a pair of goals in a match against Flagler College that eventually saw the Patriots fall 5-0 at Saints Field, Saturday night (Sept. 17)

The conference season didn't start off as FMU (1-5-0, 0-1-0) had hoped as Flagler's Johan Bergfeld took a pass from Mack Hough and put the ball past FMU freshmen goalkeeper Nick Lucido inside the far post in the second minute. 

The Saints (4-1-1, 2-0-1) doubled their lead just over two minutes later when Eammon Murray scored on an assist from Pol Berenguer.

The Patriots put four shots on net in the first frame, but couldn't minimize the lead before the halfway point. 

Flagler then tacked on three more goals in the second half, including Hough's eighth goal on the season on a header off a lofted pass.

Francis Marion was outshot 19-10, and only took one corner kick compared to the Saints' eight. Only two of the Patriots' 10 shots were on goal, both off the foot of sophomore forward Alex Blandin.

Lucido made three saves, while Flagler's Camp Bissell made two.

Francis Marion's current four-game road trip will continue when they travel to Anderson University for a non-conference match on Sept. 20 with kickoff set for 5 p.m.
