Sanchez score highlights Hanover trip
HANOVER, IND. – Sophomore midfielder Jessica Sanchez (Fort Wayne, Ind.), senior defender/midfielder Ellyn Sallee (Bloomington, Ind.) and senior forward Katelyn Barta (Griffith, Ind.) each leveled shot-on-goal attempts at Hanover College’s net Saturday, Oct. 4, leading Manchester University’s offense in the wake of a 4-1 defeat.
While Barta and Sallee’s attempts were knocked away by Panther goalkeeper Karlee Vandeweele, Sanchez’s try in the 81st minute got into the back of the net. Freshman defender Alyssa Cox (De Motte, Ind.) found Sanchez in the box for an assist off a corner kick.
Hanover (9-3 overall, 3-0 HCAC) got its offense going quickly, scoring a pair of goals in the opening 25 minutes. Senior goalkeeper Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) kept the hosts off the board from that point until a 76th minute tally gave them a commanding 3-0 lead.
MU (5-7, 2-1 HCAC) returns to conference play Tuesday, Oct. 14, traveling to Bluffton University of Ohio. Kickoff is 3:30 p.m.
NOTES: Sanchez became the ninth Black and Gold player to notch a goal this season … Cox’s assist marked her first collegiate point.
