SB's Giordano named AE Player of the Week
October 7, 2013
Cambridge, Mass. - After scoring a golden goal in the eighth minute of overtime to give the Stony Brook men's soccer team a 1-0 win over Albany, sophomore Martin Giordano (Weston, Fla.) has been named America East Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
This is the first such honor for Giordano, who was an America East Rookie of the Week selection once during his freshman campaign in 2012. In the 98th minute of the match vs. Albany last Friday, the sophomore midfielder was a step in front of his defender when he one-timed a cross from sophomore Mario Mesen (Brujas, Costa Rica) over the goalkeeper top shelf from just two yards away.
The goal lifted the #Seawolves to three points in their conference opener, and extended their unbeaten streak vs. Albany to eight matches (6-0-2).
The goal was Giordano's first of the season and fourth of his career. He now has one goal and two assists in nine matches in 2013.
Giordano and the #Seawolves, who are 5-4-0 overall and 1-0-0 in America East, are in route to Morgantown, WVa., where they will face West Virginia Tuesday at 7 p.m.
