SCSU soccer earns 2-1 OT win vs. UMD
A pair of goals by Hannah Marion provided the offensive punch the St. Cloud State University soccer team (1-2-1, 1-0-0 NSIC) needed to gain a big 2-1 overtime victory against NSIC rival Minnesota Duluth (1-3, 0-1-0 NSIC) on Sunday, Sept. 9 at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, MInn.
Marion notched the game winning goal at 93:28 in the OT session with an assist to Monica Majeski. Marion opened the match's scoring at 1:52 with a corner kick assist from teammate Brooke Bares.
The first goal by Marion provided the Huskies with an early 1-0 lead, which they held until UMD broke the shutout with a goal by Nan Glinsek at 66:46.
At the end of regulation time, the score stood at 1-1 before Marion's OT heroics. In the match, UMD outshot the Huskies 15-11. Zoe Welsh was the goalkeeper of record for SCSU with nine saves in the match, while UMD's Sisley Ng had three saves.
Marion led the Huskies in goals and also had a team leading five shots in the game. Of note, the game marked SCSU's first win of the season, first home game of the season and it was SCSU's conference opener for 2018.
SCSU will continue its 2018 season on Sept. 14 with a 3 p.m. date at Bemidji State University.
