SCSU's Kass named NSIC Player of the Week

September 27, 2016

After leading the Huskies to a two-game weekend sweep of Northern State and Minnesota State-Moorhead, St. Cloud State sophomore forward Maria Kass has been honored as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

The Pewaukee, Wis., native had a hand in all five of SCSU's goals against the Wolves and Dragons, scoring four times and assisting on the other. She netted all three Huskies tallies in their 3-1 win at MSUM on Sunday to notch the first hat trick by a St. Cloud State player since Alexandra Pafko against Minnesota-Crookston on Oct. 4, 2008. Thanks in large part to Kass's efforts, SCSU is unbeaten through its first five conference games for the second straight season.

Kass, who has six goals in her last three games overall, is the second Husky to win an NSIC weekly honor this season. Redshirt senior Julia Clifford was named Goalkeeper of the Week on September 6. The last SCSU player to earn NSIC Player of the Week honors was then-junior Alyson Fisher on Nov. 2, 2015.

Up next for Kass and the Huskies, who sit in second place in the conference with a 3-0-2 NSIC record and 11 points, is a two-game homestand against Winona State and Upper Iowa. St. Cloud State will face the Warriors on Friday, September 30 at 5 p.m., before kicking off against the Peacocks on Sunday, October 2 at 1 p.m. Both games are at Husky Stadium. SCSU students with a validated and current student ID card are admitted free to all home athletic events.
