Stony Brook, N.Y. - Redshirt senior Ashley Castanio's (Oceanside, N.Y.), celebrating senior night, made nine stops to help the #Seawolves earn a hard-fought 0-0 draw with league-leading Hartford, setting the table for a "win and your in situation" Sunday at New Hampshire. 

Ryan Reaction

"I think at this point in the season both teams are walking away tonight a bit disappointed," Ryan remarked. "I think earlier in the year both teams would have walked away thinking okay great we have a point but at this stage of the year we are thinking we had chances to put them away and get three points instead of one. From here on out the playoffs start for us. If you win you keep playing and if you don't, you go home, so we are excited about our position."

Highlights

• Castanio made many spectacular saves but none moreso than a point blank stop on Hartford's Sidney Spremullo late in the first half. The Hawks' midfielder appeared to have a free look at goal but Castanio closed quick to close the angle and make the stop. 
• Stony Brook's best stemmed from a first half corner kick. The ball fell to junior Danielle Fuller (Staten, Island, N.Y.) but her shot deflected off the back of a Hawk defender and just wide of the goal for another corner kick. 
• Hartford's Aaliyah Ingram almost was the hero in the first overtime when she ripped a shot headed for the far corner but Castanio flew to her right to make a fingertip save with her outstretched hand. 

 

Playoff Picture

• For the Seawolves, the math is simple: win and your in. A win at New Hampshire Sunday, their final game, would secure a spot in the America East final six.
• With Binghamton's win over Vermont Thursday, the Bearcats moved into a tie with Stony Brook for the sixth and final playoff spot. The good news for Stony Brook is they hold the tie breaker over Binghamton courtest of their 2-1 overtime victory over the Bearcats on Oct. 12.
• The only way Stony Brook can miss the playoffs is if Binghamton records more points in their final match up at UMBC than the Seawolves do in their match Sunday. A Binghamton win forces a Seawolves win, a Binghamton tie forces a Stony Brook tie or win, and a Binghamton loss clinches a Seawolves playoff berth.
• Stony Brook can still mathematically finish in the top four, which would secure a first round home playoff game. For that to happen, the Seawolves would have to win Sunday and have Albany defeat Maine.
