#Seawolves lose at SMU 3-1

Dallas, Texas - Idrissa Camarra scored two goals and Stanton Garcia added another as the SMU Mustangs (2-3) defeated the #Seawolves (1-4-1) 3-1 in the final game of the SMU invitational. Redshirt freshman Dario Vanegas (Miami, Fla.) scored the Seawolves goal.

Goal Recaps

  • Camara opened the scoring 1:18 in when he pounced on a rebound and beat redshirt freshman Tom McMahon (Nassau Bay, Texas) high and under the crossbar.
  • The score remained 1-0 until the 51st minute when Camara scored his second after a fortunate deflection in the box that fell to his feet. He coralled the loose ball and blasted it underneath McMahon.
  • Stanton Garcia rose high to head home a corner in the 65th minute to give the Mustangs an insurmountable 3-0 lead.
  • Redshirt freshman Dario Vanegas (Miami, Fla.) broke a long goalless drought for the #Seawolves in the 88th minute when he blasted a shot into the top corner from the top of the box for his first career goal. Junior Alejandro Fritz (Budapest, Hungary) recorded the assist on the play.

Highlights 
 

  • Stony Brook had a great chance in the second half off the foot of Fritz. His curling free kick appeared to be destined for the side netting but it was clawed away by the SMU keeper.
  • Senior Keith McKenna (Great River, N.Y.) had another good chance when he cut inside his defender but his blast was straight into the keeper's hands.


Notes

  • Five of Stony Brook's seven shots ended up on goal.
  • Fritz and McKenna led the way with two shots each. Both of McKenna's shots ended up on goal.
  • After being outshot 9-0 in the first half, the Seawolves tied SMU with seven shots apiece in the second half.

The Seawolves travel to Rhode Island next Saturday, Sep. 20 to take on Rhode Island. Stony Brook defeated the Rams 1-0 at LaValle Stadium last season.
