#Seawolves lose to Binghamton 5-1

November 1, 2014

BinghamtonN.Y. - Stony Brook's Alejandro Fritz (Budapest Hungary) scored his third goal of the season late in the first half to tie the game at 1-1 but the Binghamton Bearcats scored four second half goals to win 5-1. Despite the loss, the #Seawolves managed to secure a playoff spot thanks to UMass Lowell's victory over New Hampshire earlier in the day.

Goal Recaps

  • Bret Celeste opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he corralled a rebound from a free kick and hammered it home.
  • Fritz tied the game in the 42nd minute with a clinical finish. He got on the end of a cross from freshman Danny Espinoza (East Meadow, N.Y.) and deftly chipped it over the charging goalkeeper.
  • Logan Roberts broke the tie just a minute into the second half with a header after he was left free on the far post.
  • The score would stay at 2-1 until the 81st minute when Pascal Trapp redirected a cross over Orban's shoulder and inside the far post.
  • The fourth goal was credited as an own goal as a Bearcat corner kick went off a Stony Brook defender and into the goal.
  • Luca Bottoni rounded out the scoring in the 88th minute, getting enough on his shot to sneak it past goalkeeper Jason Orban (Manorville, N.Y.).

Highlights

  • Trailing 2-1, the Seawolves had a few quality chances to tie the game. Fernando Wadskier (Caracas, Venezuela) connected with a header on a corner kick that was destined for the back of the net but the ball was cleared off the line by a well-positioned Bearcat defender.
  • Fritz almost tied the game late in the match with his second of the night but his left-footed shot was pulled inches off the mark.

Notes

  • Binghamton outshot Stony Brook 20-15 for the match and 10-5 in shots on goal.
  • Wadskier led the Seawolves with four shots and two shots on goal.
  • Orban made five stops.
