#Seawolves season ends in 1-0 loss to UNH

Durham, N.H. - The #Seawolves season came to an abrupt end on Sunday as they fell to New Hampshire 1-0. A Binghamton overtime victory over UMBC early in the day allowed the Bearcats to jump Stony Brook for the sixth and final playoff spot in the America East. 

Goal Recap 

New Hampshire’s Brooke Murphy scored her eighth goal of the season in the 21st minute. The goal would hold up as the lone tally. 

Highlights 

  • The Seawolves kicked it into desperation mode in the second half, creating numerous quality opportunities. One of their top chances occurred when senior Shannon Grogan (Eastampton, N.J.) squared a ball for redshirt junior Regan Bosnyak (West Hartford, Conn.). She sent a hard shot on goal that went through the hands of the New Hampshire goalkeeper but over the goal.
  • Redshirt sophomore Raven Edwards (West Orange, N.J.) came within inches of tying the match in the 83rd minute but her shot clanked off the post.         

Notes

  • Stony Brook outshot New Hampshire 11-10 for the match and had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Grogan led Stony Brook with four shots shots and two shots on goal.
  • Redshirt senior Ashley Castanio (Oceanside, N.Y.), who made six saves in the loss, finishes her career fourth in career shutouts with 12 and second in career goals against average at 1.30 goals per game.
  • Junior Tessa Devereaux’s (Fayetteville, N.Y.) seven assists is the sixth best single-season assist total and most since a Seawolf since she notched seven as a freshman in 2012. She ends her junior season sixth in school history with 16 assists.
