Second half goals subdue Black and Gold
GETTYSBURG, PA. – The junior duo of forward Katelyn Barta (Griffith, Ind.) and midfielder Sofie Tzortzinis (Ann Arbor, Mich.) each registered two shot attempts to lead an eight-shot offensive attack for Manchester University Friday, Aug. 30.
The Spartans kept it level with the Crusaders of Alvernia University of Pennsylvania for better than 50 minutes. However, the opposition worked itself past MU’s defense twice from the 50th through 74th minutes while keeping the Black and Gold at arm’s length in their offensive opportunities for a 2-0 win.
Junior goalkeeper Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) tallied seven saves in a full 90-minute appearance in net. Her performance came in the wake of a strong Alvernia second half push that saw the Crusaders post 15 shot attempts as part of a 22-6 edge in the match.
The Spartans take on the host Bullets of Gettysburg College in the second day of the Gettysburg Cup Saturday, Aug. 31. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Clark Field on Gettysburg’s campus. Live statistics and video will be available at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics.
