Three second half goals helped guide the Seattle University women's soccer team to their 10th victory of the season. After a quiet first half, the Redhawks ignited their offense and went on earn a 3-1 win over CSU Bakersfield Friday evening in Bakersfield, Calif. For Seattle U, it was not about how they started the game, but how they finished that mattered. Key substitutions were the catalyst in the Redhawks' victory and them improving to 10-5 on the year.

 "We were much better in the second half. I was impressed with how the team turned the game around after not looking very fresh in the first half. In the game, Taylor (Ritzman) scored her first collegiate goal and Shawna (Anderson) earned her first of the year, as well. Defensively, Alyssa (Campagna) added a great spark in the midfield, which helped us get things going in the second half," said head coach Julie Woodward.

After a scoreless first half, where offensive opportunities on goal were minimal, the Redhawks picked up their play in the final 45. CSUB opened the second half possessing the ball in SU territory, before Seattle U began to set their tempo in motion.

At the 61:04-minute mark, freshman Megan Daniels (Lake Forest, Calif.) served up an assist to junior Emma Levy (Sammamish, Wash.). Levy received the pass and shot in the go-ahead goal from just outside the 18-yard box.

Following Levy's goal, the Redhawks substituted freshman Taylor Ritzman (Holladay, Utah) into the game. In the 65th minute, Daniels sent the ball to an oncoming Ritzman, who shot in the game-winner from 10 yards out. The goal marked Ritzman's first career goal and classmate Daniels earned her first multi-assist game.

The Redhawk defense was unable to preserve the shutout, as Tyler Shirk dished a pass to Jordan Taylor inside the box. Taylor was able to make it a one-goal game, 2-1, with her shot from eight yards out in the 71st minute.

Bakersfield attempted to pick up their offensive momentum after breaking onto the board, sending in a pair of quick shots. Despite their efforts, the Seattle U defense was able to deflect their efforts and send the ball deep into the Roadrunner half of the field.

At the 78:03-minute mark, sophomore Shawna Anderson (Pasco, Wash.) took the ball, dribbled it into the box and sailed in SU's final strike of the match. One an evening of season firsts, the goal was Anderson's first of the season.

Redshirt freshman Alyssa Campagna (Las Vegas, Nev.) added a lift to the Redhawk defensive efforts. In 30 minutes of second half action, she played a central role in helping deflect the Roadrunner's offensive attack.

In the match, SU outshot CSUB 9-8, with a 5-3 on frame advantage. The Redhawk trio of scorers were all substitutes and each scored off their lone shots in the match.

The Redhawks will enjoy a nine-day break in play before the hit the road for their longest trip of the season to Austin, Texas. Seattle U will face Texas on Sunday, Oct. 23, in a 1 p.m. CT match. The game will be broadcasted on the ESPN affiliate Longhorn Network, with former Mexican National Team member Monica Gonzalez calling the game.
